Ebisu is a specialist in the private training of ninja, and uses this skill to tutor Konohamaru in general ninja abilities and later to train Naruto Uzumaki in better chakra control. The name "Ebisu" comes from the Japanese god Ebisu, who is usually pictured watching over the health of young children. He initially dislikes Naruto since he only sees him as the container of the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox, though after seeing the positive influence Naruto has on Konohamaru he begins to have a change of heart. Still, Ebisu doesn't approve of the perverted jutsu Naruto uses and then teaches to Konohamaru, though has himself fallen prey to Naruto's perverted jutsu, causing Naruto to often refer to him as the "closet pervert" because of this. Ebisu is briefly Naruto's tutor for the month between the preliminaries of the Chunin Exam and the finals, but Jiraiya knocks him out for interfering with his "research," and soon takes over as Naruto's tutor. In Part II, Ebisu is put in charge of a Genin team with Konohamaru and his two friends, Udon and Moegi, as its members.
